Does the user need administrator rights to install the software?

Yes, there are several registry keys written out during the install process that must be present in order for the software to verify that the user is in fact licensed to use the software. Once the software has been installed, the user only needs to be able to read from the registry, the software will make no further attempt to write data to the registry.

Where does the software install to, and can I change this?

The software will, by default, install to C:\Program Files\JDH Group\

If the user of the computer has read/write access to that folder you may use the default folder as the install point for the software. If the user does not have read/write access to that folder you must select a folder that does have read write access.

What if I'm not sure where I have read/write access?

If you are in a locked down enviroment you may need to contact your network administrator. One common directory where users generally have read/write access is :

C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\UserData\

Why does the software require that the user have read/write access to the install directory?

The software is self updating. This can be as simple as updates to content/data files, or more complex as new plugins or an update to the application exe. If the user accunt does not have read/write access to the install directory then these updates can not be pushed out to them.

How does the software update it's self?

When the software is first launched, a connection to the JDH web server is made. This connection uses the standard web traffic (http) port, port 80, to transfer files to the users machine.

Do I need to make changes to my Firewall/Proxy in order for the software to update?

If you have port 80 open then you will not need to open any additional ports. If you have content filtering on your firewall/proxy server you may need to add www.convertmoresales.com to your allowed list.

I get socket errors when running the application, what is going on?

The most common reason for this is that the application is unable to connect to the server to perform the update process. If you are unable to connect to the server because of a firewall issue and/or wish to not dynamically update the software, you can skip this process.

To skip updating you will need to change the exe file that the Initiator short cut calls. By Default the shortcut attempts to launch Initiator_Updater.exe which is in the JDH Group directory (usually found at C:\Program Files\JDH Group\Sales System unless otherwise directed during Installation). You can change this short cut to point to the Initiator.exe file (in the same directory) and bypass the update routines. This will put the system in 'Manual' mode and all updates and edits per serial number can be done through the outline Editor backing up Content file and manually e-mailing the zip file.
